Territorial struggles and food sovereignty in the southern Istmus, Mexico
Abstract
This paper analyzes food sovereignty in the context of autonomic processes performed by indigenous communities in the struggles for the defense of their territory. We discuss the territorial conflict at Tehuantepec Isthmus, Mexico, which faces communities against transnational corporations supported by Mexican government. Deterritorialization, driven by the Mexican government and the wind energy corporations, in a context of weakening of peasant production, as well as reterritorialization builded for the communities, are analysed along this paper. Finally, we discussed the challenges for the strengthening of the communality, which is the conceptual and practical axis of autonomic construction in the region.Downloads
